Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, Antenatal Lung Volume Assessment, and Prognosis: Is There a Relationship? Pardou A, Vermeylen D, Hennequin Y, et al. Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
Antenatal lung volumes were measured by MRI in 3 babies with suspected diaphragmatic hernia and in 215 normal fetuses. The range of lung volumes in D hernia fetuses was from 39% to 55% of that seen in normal fetuses of similar gestational age. All 3 babies with D hernias survived with HFOV treatment, and had good respiratory outcomes. Further studies are needed to determine if a correlation can be found between MRI lung volumes and prognosis for infants with CDH.
