Factors Associated with Survival in Infants <= 500 grams. Clark R, Whitfield J, Thomas P, et al. Pediatrix Medical Group, Weston, FL.

This study, a retrospective data analysis of 146 infants under 500 grams that were offered intensive care, was designed to identify factors associated with survival.

52 babies survived (36%). More advanced EGA was associated with survival in this group of babies. Birth weight, prenatal steroids, mode of delivery and 1-minute Apgar score were not associated with survival.

Comment. Not surprising.
